Let's Make Progress!

"Progress doesn't just happen. It is the result of timeless efforts." A noteworthy quote from the Chair of the EEOC, Jenny Yang, speaking to attendees at the 2016 Annual National Training. I was honored to attend and couldn't help thinking, while she was speaking, that each step forward brings us closer to creating our own distinct employer brand.

Everything we do in our organizations--conducting periodic self audits that allow us to build sound process, creating an environment that makes everyone comfortable and welcome, using screening tools that screen IN people who can do the job (and not just screen OUT those who can't), and building a shared voice for equality in our communities--becomes our brand.

Candidates choose the companies they will consider for employment opportunities. Perhaps they conduct their own audit before submitting an application. That audit likely includes conversations with others who currently work for your organization or have worked for your organization in the past. Those conversations happen in person, over the phone, or via social media. Do you know what people are saying about your organization in these "off the record" conversations? Would your company be described as a great place to work, a company that really values its employees by providing meaningful benefits, or a place people go to collect a paycheck? Do you provide meaningful employment opportunities or do you just want to make sure the work gets done?

Once hired, employees choose whether or not to engage, whether or not to be productive, and whether or not to remain employed by your organization. Your employees ARE your brand. You can spend a lot of money on fancy marketing campaigns, flashy ads, and logo gear and it will be money wasted if you haven't first invested in building your brand through the employment experience.

We can help you.
